A major work of 80 minutes duration for the Knockdown Center’s 50,000 sq. ft. space, “Piano Vectors” for 6 pianos will fill the air with mysterious and intriguing layers of sound creating an entrancing aural tapestry. Each pianist is a soloist, and each piano will be located at chance- determined locations throughout this incredible venue. The composition was begun with a system for organizing time, and this system in turn generated all subsequent musical and spatial elements. Imagine the 6 pianists traveling through space and time, each at their own rate, compressing or stretching Time in randomized and improvised ways. This will be the world premiere of Piano Vectors, which explores and summarizes King’s cosmic ideas on the organization of time and space and sound. Steinway and Sons will be providing 6 9-foot concert grand model D’s for the shows – their largest model!
This concert is also supported by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts and the 92nd St. Y School of Music.
