sc03_shot01_InsideTheTorusA_1025-1500x200In this mesmerizing world premiere, the artist CLIFFORD ROSS teams up with NYC-based chamber ensemble ORCHESTRA OF ST LUKE’S to bring us a massive, site-specific, multi-screen installation with a varied and transportive suite of live music to Celebrate Brooklyn! at the Prospect Park Bandshell on July 30. Ross, whose work evokes “profound vitality and pleasure,” (Art in America) has gained notoriety for his ambitious, large-scale endeavors and technological innovations. While developing the piece Harmonium Mountain, he worked with animators to enhance a single high resolution photograph of a landscape with 3D computer-generated elements.

St. Luke’s is an ensemble marked by “roving curiosity” and “stylistic flexibility,” (NY Times) and a linchpin of the New York chamber music scene. Equally at home interpreting newly commissioned works and the central European canon, they are fast-rising musical omnivores with a knack for unconventional programming. To accompany Harmonium Mountain, Ross and St. Luke’s have devised a program featuring works by Antonio Vivaldi, Steve Reich, John Adams, Bryce Dessner, and Wojciech Kilar, including excerpts from Vivaldi’s celebrated “The Four Seasons” and Adams’ “Shaker Loops.”

The evening will feature ALAN PIERSON, Conductor; ABIGAIL FISCHER, Mezzo-Soprano; and KRISTA BENNION FENNEY, Violin.

To begin the evening, cellist JEFFREY ZEIGLER of the Kronos Quartet teams up with percussionist ANDY AKIHO and poet ROGER BONAIR-AGARD for a program of Philip Glass, John Zorn, and Paola Prestini.
